Knowledge and experience of airborne LiDAR and data processing is required as well as some knowledge of other aerial survey methods.


The purpose of the role is to work within the existing production team processing LiDAR data from sensor to customer. The work will be a mixture of client project work and the generation of Bluesky’s own geospatial data products.



The responsibilities for the position of LiDAR Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • LiDAR data processing from our airborne sensors, including but not limited to strip matching, noise removal, classification, feature extraction

  • Work with the flight operations team to ensure data is captured to the highest specification and processed with due care and attention to ensure the deliverables are of the highest possible standard and meet the customers’ requirements.

  • Use LiDAR processing software including TerraSolid

  • Liaise and manage subcontractors to process LIDAR

  • Understand client requirements

  • Troubleshoot and solve routine LiDAR data processing issues

  • Assist other members of staff with queries about LiDAR

  • Incorporate LIDAR with other GIS data types from various sources

  • Develop and innovate flow lines to allow automated data processing

  • Help to develop and document and test the specification and accuracies of LiDAR data

  • Disseminate details of the product throughout the organisation

  • Develop your own skills in LiDAR processing

  • Carry out other tasks within reason to assist in the efficient running of the company


  • Must be eligible to work in the UK and communicate fully in English

  • Over 2 years’ experience LIDAR processing

  • Knowledge of various GIS and Remote Sensing software such as ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, FME, LASTools, ERDAS, MapInfo

  • Understanding of GIS data (Point Cloud data, vector, raster and height data (DTM, DSM)

  • Organisational and multi-tasking skills

  • Analytical and numeracy skills

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills

  • Innovative

  • Commercial awareness

  • Diplomacy and the ability to work to deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Full, clean driving licence

Desired Qualifications:

  • A degree or Masters degree in a Geographical, Remote Sensing or GIS related discipline.

  • Proven experience of successful LiDAR projects
