GIS ANALYST

Do you have experience in GIS and spatial analysis? Bluesky requires a dynamic focused GIS specialist to join our busy production and innovative R&D team.

 

Knowledge of spatial modelling techniques such as network modelling, surface modelling, and other complex spatial analysis. Knowledge of spatial application development, relational databases and scripting; ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the work.  Advanced skills with GIS (ESRI & QGIS) in the context of geospatial data processing, analysis, management and presentation.

 

Minimum Academic Qualifications & Certification:

 

  • A Master’s degree in GIS and/or suitable experience. 

 

Essential Criteria:

 

  • A minimum of 3 years of practical experience using GIS

  • Understanding of core principles of GIS and GI data management

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a geography related discipline, IT or computing, preferably an MSc in GIS

  • Extensive experience using ArcGIS Suite, in particular Model Builder and Spatial Analyst extensions and 3rd party plugins, also ESRI ArcGIS Online

  • Knowledge and Experience of Open Source GIS software (e.g. QGIS / GDAL / PostGIS)

  • Extensive experience of geoprocessing and workflow automation

  • Experience of programming in either Python, SQL or VBA

  • Understanding of relational databases and database design

  • Experience of working with airborne remote sensing data (aerial photo & LiDAR in particular)

  • Knowledge using a wide range of geospatial data and analysis, including vector, raster and point cloud

  • Training and Mentoring others in GIS

  • Good communication and presentation skills

  • Self-motivated and organised individual

  • Excellent Microsoft Access and Excel

  • Previous GIS project management experience

  • Ability to identify innovative solutions to problems

  • Well-motivated and team focussed with an ability to work without supervision and act on own initiative

  • Well-motivated and able to work to tight deadlines

  • Desire to work within a small team applying GIS to environment, geoscience and infrastructure projects

 

Desirable Criteria:

 

  • 5 years of practical experience using GIS

  • Experience of preparing content for bids and proposals

  • Experience of working within environmental/geoscience (forestry/renewable/flood/environment/utilities) disciplines

  • Knowledge and Experience of WebGIS (e.g. GeoServer)

  • ArcObjects, ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE,

  • PostgreSQL/PostGIS

  • Experience with FME

  • Achieved or working towards Professional accreditation e.g. (CGeog)

  • Metadata / INSPIRE implementation

  • Committed to Continuous Professional Development and an awareness of new GIS trends.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be accountable for the production and development of Bluesky’s National Tree Map (NTM), one of the company’s core GIS datasets.  You will also be key in assisting in the growth of the GIS team and services by supporting internal business; assisting in developing external opportunities and managing other GIS projects.


You will be expected to manage the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget, time-frame and quality targets, meeting or exceeding client expectations, promoting and marketing all facets of Bluesky’s services, but in particular NTM, during interfaces with clients and other sectors and disciplines, contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan and to build networks within the industry.


Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Managing and delivering the National Tree Map from end to end

  • Undertaking quality control of NTM

  • Managing and delivering other GIS projects for internal and external clients

  • Preparing and contributing to internal and external project bids and proposals

  • Providing GIS technical mentoring to other GIS staff

  • Undertaking presentations on GIS

  • Undertaking GIS mapping, analysis, data capture, data management, geoprocessing and developing databases

  • Development and management of Web GIS projects including WMS/WFS services

  • Working with the GIS team to deliver GIS deliverables to tight deadlines

  • Contributing to the technical development of the GIS team through sharing ideas and innovations

  • Occasional travel to client’s offices for project meetings

  • Performing other reasonable duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or Bluesky
