Aerial Surveying

Aerial surveying is a geomatics method of collecting information using aerial photography or other remote sensing imagery bands of the electromagnetic spectrum such as infrared, ultraviolet and gamma.

Typically done using aeroplanes or helicopters, aerial surveying should be differentiated from satellite imagery technology by its higher resolution, quality and lower atmospheric interference.

In recent times the term aerophotogrammetry has been used to describe the art of photogrammetry where the camera has an accurately measued geographical position and atitude.

The cameras used in aerial surveying are similar to common cameras but the internal elements are accurately measured and the camera has a larger focal length and lens diameter.
