Bluesky 3D Building Models provide intelligent 3D geospatial mapping to help planners take account of location, scale and spatial context of the built environment when making informed decisions at the master planning stage.
Derived from high resolution aerial photography, these computer drawings accurately represent the existing urban environment supporting developers, architects and urban planners to make speedy and cost effective decisions in desktop computer aid-design. Bluesky 3D Building Models are compatible with CAD & GIS software such as Sketchup, AutoCAD, Bentley Microstation, ESRI ARCGIS along with visualisation packages such as 3DS Max, Rhino and Maya.
Our standard level of exterior building detail includes pitched and gables roof shapes, dormer windows and chimneys. Enhanced 3D models are offered including accurate terrain representation and aerial photography textures. Bluesky currently offer immediately available 'off the shelf' 3D Building Models of many UK cities. Smaller sites are modelled and delivered via a rapid bespoke service.

Accurate Real World 3D Building Models
| |
Bluesky 3D Building Models are vector mesh files showing real world XYZ heights (in meters above sea-level) and coordinates for measuring. Accurate and editable mesh geometry showing landscape and trees can also be added to a model.
Imagery & Textures
| |
Landscape and roofs can be automatically textured with high resolution aerial photography for additional realism. The models are also primed ready to be have building facia textured with additional oblique or street level photography.
Interactivity
| |
Bluesky 3D Building Models allow you full control over how you view and move around in your digital 3D built environment. You can fly around, orbit, pan and zoom to view buildings from any angle.
Editing
| |
All our building model components can be selected, exploded and re-textured. Software such as SketchUp allows you to remove existing buildings from the supplied model and replace with CAD buildings created by you.
Connectivity & Interoperability
| |
Bluesky 3D Building Models are designed to connect easily to Ordnance Survey Mapping, aerial photography, Digital Elevation Models (DSM/DTM), LiDAR Surveys, flood mapping and address datasets.
Flexible Licensing
| |
All our 3D models are created independently of national mapping agency data. This means we can offer attractively priced perpetuity, re-sale or project duration licenses to our customers.

Sun & Shadow / Right to Light Studies
| |
Architects and surveyors use Bluesky 3D Building Models for contextual mapping when conducting light of Sun & Shadow / Right to light studies in their desktop software. Our 3D buildings have surfaces so will cast a shadow when a digital light is shone on them. Because they contain real world XYZ heights and account for earth curvature they provide an appropriate representation of the existing urban environment when comparing with the sun's azimuth at various times of the day. This provides cost effective information to developers ensuring that new buildings meet planning requirements and do not infringe legal rights to light without having to send resources into the field.

Environmental Studies
| |
When integrated into specialised GIS & emissions modelling software Bluesky 3D models can provide reliable and accurate urban massing for noise, pollution and gas propagation studies. Data can be provided for entire cites or just a few hectares.
Climate Change
| |
Environmental Consultants use Bluesky 3D building models to provide contextual information for an existing urban area when assessing a new development's contribution to climate change. Bluesky 3D model and terrain information can also assist in planning energy and water infrastructure, renewable energy schemes, building services and land use and remediation.
Flood Risk
| |
Bluesky 3D building models in conjunction with LiDAR terrain data will assist in property level flood risk mapping. The accurate building geometry and its relationship with the terrain will help predict the location, extent, depth of flooding when interrogated and modelled with your water volume predictions in GIS or CAD. Utilities, developers, insurance, local authorities all benefit from the ability to predict, plan and mitigate against flooding.
Transport & Movement
| |
Civil engineers use Bluesky 3D building models in GIS or CAD when considering: Public transport, new parking zone, traffic management, improved public transport provision, green travel planning and travel logistics and site accessibility during construction.
Ecology
| |
Bluesky 3D building models, terrain mapping and aerial photography provide valuable information for making spatial decisions regarding the conservation of wildlife and ecology living on and visiting a proposed site. Bluesky 3D models can aid planning and costing of planting and landscaping schemes, locating habitat areas, green corridors and ground pollution.
Community
| |
Bluesky 3D models provide easily recognisable 3D representations of the built environment in which urban designers can present their new ideas to the community. Demonstrate how a new development will look compared to local context and built heritage, whilst highlighting social impact like proximity of local amenities and accessibility to play and green spaces.
